When Elon Musk eventually goes bust, it will exhaust the world's strategic reserve of schadenfreude.

Likewise… in addition to your comments, besides stressing everything to the max

( who flies with fire suppression

anyway !? ) there is also likely to be a POGO problem that is causing additional vibrations and fluid flow disturbances.

( Others have also wrote and have videos explaining it ) Engine up grades are not gonna solve this either, since more efficient/lighter weight engines tend to add less compliance in the feed line system, making the problem worse. So we will see how this vehicle and story evolves. ( Sat V was also 12 for 12, did with slide rules, and had some POGO issues they worked thru )

Whomp! Whomp! And another one bites the dust.

The upper stage did reach space, but the payload bay wouldn't open, and both stages were lost. The booster broke apart, and the upper stage had a fuel leak which caused it to tumble and break up as well.

Spot on analysis, and good read.

Alas, the gold standard is to have lots of headroom in performance envelopes, and redundant systems.

Also, I think you meant "reinforced" not enforced.

Just checked, Space X is planning a 7:30 PM launch. Fingers crossed that it blows up again.

I just love your newsletter, Will. You can explain these complicated engineering issues to physics deficient brains like mine and I understand!

You have to wonder what his investors are thinking. Elon is turning out to have the Black Thumb of Death when it comes to innovative engineering.
