Oh, Trump Just Loves Genocide…
No, really, he is pushing at least three.
About a year ago, I tried my hand at political satire writing, but I felt I had to stop. Why? Well, most satire takes the actions and behaviours of politicians and elevates them to new extremes to highlight the level of stupidity being displayed. However, I felt I, and many other satirical writers, were actually doing the opposite and making such extreme rhetoric and actions more palatable to many people. Recently, though, I looked back and thought I may have gotten something wrong. After all, my last satirical article, “Disneyland Gaza In The Works,” which set out to lampoon the US’s hegemonic power over Palestine, was so removed from reality that no one would be stupid enough to actually propose such a thing. After all, it would be a painfully obvious genocide… Then, I remembered: Trump. And this isn’t the only genocide the brainless orange buffoon is pushing.
Now, genocide is not a word that should be used liberally — otherwise, you undermine its brutality and significance. So, let’s define it.
The UN defines genocide as “the deliberate destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.” This can be through actively killing the group but also through less direct routes, like taking away their children, restricting their access to medicine, or taking actions to reduce the birthrate in that group. Ethnic cleansing, the act of forcibly removing a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group from an area, is also considered genocide in many legal circles, including the ICC. Then there is cultural genocide, or ethnocide, which is defined as “the attempted destruction of a group’s culture, religion, and identity.” Again, this can be committed through several different direct and indirect means. While some don’t consider cultural genocide an actual form of genocide, it falls under the same ICC Article 6 definition of genocide, and as such, countries committing it can be prosecuted for genocide.
With these definitions, we can point to at least three genocides Trump is actively involved in or creating.
The most obvious is his proposed plans for the US to seize control of the Gaza Strip and permanently remove its 2.2 million Palestinian inhabitants from neighbouring countries, only for the US to then redevelop the strip. Trump even said that the US would “own it and be responsible,” claiming they could turn it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
But this is a crystal-clear case of ethnic cleansing, especially when you consider that no country wants to accept these 2.2 million Gazans, and so rehoming them would likely break every human right under the sun.
Unsurprisingly, the only world leader in favour of this plan is the genocidal maniac and Holocaust revisor Netanyahu. No, seriously, the entire Arab world, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Britain, China, Russia, and the UN have denounced Trump’s proposal as being an act of genocide. When China and Russia, two nations that are being actively investigated for openly committing genocide as we speak, call you out for being too genocidal, you know something is seriously, seriously wrong. It paints both Trump and Netanyahu as deeply dangerous, barbaric, racist, nationalistic hooligans who have no place in politics.
So, that’s genocide number one. What about number two?
Well, Trump’s actions against the LGBTQ community count as cultural genocide.
I have already covered this topic in a previous article, but here is a quick overview. Trump forced the CDC to remove any new research containing the words gender, transgender, pregnant person, pregnant people, LGBT, transsexual, non-binary, assigned male at birth, assigned female at birth, biologically male, and biologically female. Why? Well, this ensured the CDC was following his deeply anti-scientific and dogmatic executive order that there are only two sexes — instead of following the path of science, which shows that biological sex is clearly a spectrum. However, in doing this, the CDC also removed and then re-uploaded in different locations crucial information on contraception and STIs that impact the LGBTQ+ community.
This is just a modern-day version of Nazi book burnings. But the overall effect is that LGBTQ+ people will lose access to appropriate healthcare. This, combined with many other actions and proposed actions by Trump’s administration, will dramatically increase the risk of death to people in the LGBTQ+ community, which fits perfectly into the definition of cultural genocide.
It’s not just me pointing this out. The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention, an international group named after the man who coined the term ‘genocide,’ has issued the US with a red flag warning over these actions. These red flags mean that the rhetoric, legislation, and actions of a nation are headed in a direction that could easily constitute a genocide.
And the Lemkin Institute didn’t just issue this regarding Trump’s LGBTQ+ actions but also his actions against migrants. This brings me to genocide number three.
Trump is reopening Guantanamo Bay as a 30,000-person holding facility for “illegal migrants accused of criminal actions.” Make no mistake, this is a concentration camp. Plenty of facilities on US soil can do a better job of this than Gitmo. So why Gitmo? Well, as it is a military base away from US soil, it can detain people indefinitely without due process, and detainees don’t have any human rights, allowing their captors to torture them legally.
Trump has also enabled ICE to arrest undocumented migrants accused of committing a crime with the Laken Riley Act. In fact, there are many reports of ICE arresting numerous migrants who haven’t even been accused of a crime. Trump is also in the process of removing the documented migration of many who came to the US legally under Biden. In fact, the Trump administration has plans to denaturalise (take away US citizenship from) even more people. If successful, it could be used to take thousands upon thousands of migrants with legal US citizenship to Guantanamo for indefinite confinement.
Because these actions disproportionately affect non-white communities, especially when considering the racial bias of law enforcement in the USA, this is on track to become a clear case of genocide. After all, Trump and his cronies have actively talked about the racial purity of the US in rhetoric, which is almost identical to Hitler’s.
I can’t believe I have had to lay out how the POTUS is pushing three open genocides, two of which are in his own country! Surely, this is enough to impeach him? He clearly and desperately wants to break international law, denounce human rights, and be extremely amoral to anyone who isn’t a white, male, American billionaire. And for what reason? To deepen the US’s inherent racist, misogynistic, ableist, transphobic, Islamophobic, and nationalist global imperialism with his shitty little throne on top… How utterly pathetic, thin-skinned, and moronic this fat, illiterate, impotent, orange man-baby is.
Fuck Trump and his abominable Nazi shit. We can do better than this.
