Ahhhh but has Elon really pulled the trigger? Maybe I've missed something, but what he seems to have said is that Tesla is not pursuing AGI ... but does that preclude Tesla from magically (and maybe exclusively in Elon's head) achieving AGI without actually pursuing it? Or maybe SpaceXAI (or whatever the company is called today) achieves it ... Tesla not "pursuing" it would still be true?
I think the correct answer is "the heat death of the universe" but I guess that's not an option.
I will say that the press has shown an alarming inability to understand what AI is - it's just like crypto and NFTs all over again, so it's like they don't even know how to question it.
What I don't understand is how they still don't realize it's basically just autocomplete. Every time I search for something on Bing I get an AI answer front and center and it's usually wrong. It even gives you the references it used and half the time it doesn't even agree with it's own refrences.
Yesterday I was looking for information on an obscure historical fire lookout tower that burned down in 2011. This would definitely be one of the edge cases Lockett mentions here. I get an unasked-for AI summary saying that the tower is open and staffed for the season, then in the next paragraph talks about the fire and says it's neither open nor staffed. You would think reporters would also be seeing these "AI overviews" of things like Schrodinger's Fire Tower and become skeptical of claims about AGI.

What happens first: An analyst presses Musk over his AGI statement or a reporter presses Trump over his next deranged remark?

I wonder how many people hate this fucker?
