For some reason, this post isn't appearing in my Substack feeds, although I got the newsletter in my email. Don't know if this is just me, but all my other subscriptions are working fine

Modern neuroscience predictive brain theory notes the importance of proprioception: the brain predicts what it will feel like to move the arm and hand to grasp the clothing, then takes the proprioceptive feedback to correct its predictions. This is obvious when watching a child learn to catch a ball: repeated errors leading to eventual success. For “intelligent” robots, this predictive step must precede action, otherwise the action is merely programmed repetition. Apparently neither the tech bros nor the AI mavens are up to date on current brain science. Even vision is initially predictive, as shown by the fact that there are many more neuronal connections running from the occipital cortex to the retinae than vice a versa.

Agreed. In addition, that lean supply of video information needs to handle edge cases, and inform a split-second decision -- with feedback loops!
